ECHO for Peace - last weekend of April 2026

The European Union was built on a strong desire for peace in the aftermath of two world wars that ravaged it, causing tens of millions of victims worldwide. Even today, dozens of wars are wreaking havoc in different parts of the globe, at the cost of untold suffering for civilian populations.

Our concern is heightened today by the resurgence, even in most of our countries, of aggressive and extremist nationalist ideologies very similar to those that led to the Second World War. A just and lasting peace depends on respect for human rights. Shouldn't we, therefore, work tirelessly to combine a culture of peace with an awareness of human rights?

Advocating for peace today inevitably involves confronting many questions. The answers are not necessarily simple or obvious. We must therefore meditate, question, search, listen, and engage in dialogue.

Listening to historic organs that have survived so many wars through centuries can be a strong experience, especially in the frame of a community.

May listening to music and pleas for peace, the joy of sharing and artistic creation, contribute to fostering a greater desire for peace.
